At North Battleford, we understand the need for our customers to make an informed decision when it comes to purchasing your next vehicle. The all-new 2021 Hyundai Elantra is making waves this season with a bold new look that’s blowing away its competitors, including the Honda Civic, the Nissan Sentra, and the oh-so-predictable Toyota Corolla.

While we might be a little bit biased here at North Battleford Hyundai, we firmly believe that the 2021 Elantra is outshining the competition in virtually every major category. Leading the game in technology and safety features, as well as powerful performance, it's no wonder the Elantra has been named the 2021 North American Car of the Year! Tech & Safety

This year, the 2021 Elantra underwent a complete makeover with a redesign that included interior and exterior styling and some major advancements in technology and safety features. With even more offerings available in its standard features, the Elantra is way ahead of its competitors.

  • In addition to the standard 8” display touchscreen, the 2021 Elantra also offers an upgradeable 10.25" display touchscreen. This touchscreen can even be split three ways to show you different aspects of information simultaneously! While the 2021 Corolla does offer an 8” touchscreen display standard (on all except for the L trim’s 7” display screen), you won’t find any larger than that and certainly not with the Elantra’s handy three-way split feature!

  • Challenging the Corolla’s typical analog gauge display, here comes the 2021 Elantra with its fancy 10.25” full digital instrument cluster, available in Ultimate and Ultimate Hybrid trims. This impressive digital dashboard interface will enhance your driving experience with its advanced high-resolution coloured screen.

  • Both the Elantra and the Corolla include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto smartphone connectivity as standard features. But one feature the 2021 Elantra has over the competition is its voice-recognition system that accurately allows you to activate and adjust things like web searches, GPS, heated seats, and climate control by saying simple phrases out loud!

When it comes to advancements in safety, the 2021 Elantra has certainly got you covered. Hyundai SmartSense consists of a suite of key safety features that include Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Test, and Lane Following Assist. Comparatively, Toyota Safety Sense also has favourable feedback. However, it’s not equipped with innovations like Rear Occupant Alert, a reminder to check your back seats, or Driver Attention Warning, used to help detect driver’s fatigue for those long commutes in The Battlefords!

“Enter the 2021 Hyundai Elantra Limited, and you'll be wowed by the 10.3-inch touchscreen, the 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and the amount of tech goodies. From the ability to use your phone as a key to the natural behavior of the voice controls, Hyundai packed the Elantra with plenty of useful features. SE, SEL, and N Line trims get an 8.0-inch touchscreen instead of the big screen but benefit from wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.”

Power & Performance

Equipped with a Smartstream 2.0 L engine, standard 6-speed manual transmission, and the Smartstream intelligent variable transmission, the 2021 Elantra is efficiently powerful. While the 2021 Corolla offers considerably good fuel efficiency at 7.1 litres (city and highway combined) per 100 km, the Elantra excels at 6.7 litres. And with Hyundai’s first-ever Elantra Hybrid, you can be sure to maximize even more on fuel efficiency at 4.4 litres per 100 km. With a 1.6 litre four-cylinder as well as an electric motor, the Hybrid runs at 139 horsepower. The standard powertrain has a 147 horsepower four-cylinder, while the Corolla offers a slightly less attractive 139 horsepower.

“Overall, we're impressed with the new Elantra. Depending on the model, the Elantra with the 2.0-liter engine gets an EPA-estimated 35-37 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Either way, you're looking at excellent fuel economy. We easily verified the EPA's estimate and even exceeded it on our mixed-driving 115-mile test route, achieving an impressive 41.8 mpg.”

Verdict: Elantra Can’t Be Beat!

We think it’s safe to say that the 2021 Hyundai Elantra is definitely the clear contender here. While the 2021 Toyota Corolla has some good things going for it, the Elantra is leading the way in tech and infotainment advancements, cutting-edge and innovative safety features, and excellent fuel efficiency and power. Even the bold, sporty redesign has got the competition shaking in their tires!
